Rules for the BBCBA Qualifying Rounds of the Golfprint Trophy for Teams of Four

1        Eligibility

All players must be members of the golf club. Each team can contain no more than one player of Regional Master or higher rank. Players do not have to be members of Berks & Bucks CBA or the EBU. Players cannot play in more than one team.

  2        Formation

The Qualifying Rounds will take the form of a knock-out, structured to produce the appropriate number of qualifiers for the Regional final, as specified by the EBU, i.e.

                  1 – 6 teams    =  1 qualifier

                  7 – 12 teams  =  2 qualifiers

13 – 18 teams   =  3 qualifiers

19 – 24 teams   =  4 qualifiers

Note: If the original entry is 25 or more teams the Event Secretary will apply to the EBU for permission for a fifth qualifier.

Entries close on 9th September 2007. Once the number of entries is known the Event Secretary will draw teams by lot into knock-out sections equal to the number of permitted qualifiers, i.e. each section will produce a single qualifier. Where possible teams from the same club will be allocated to different sections.

3        Prizes

The members of each qualifying team will receive a free entry voucher to a BBCBA event and their fees will be paid for the Regional Final, and the National final if they qualify.

4        Matches

All matches will be of 20 boards, with change of opponents after 10 boards, and scored by i.m.p.s. Matches can be played at any suitable location, e.g. people’s homes or their golf club. In the event of a match being tied after 20 boards, the teams play a further 4 boards, and repeat if necessary, until a winner is determined.

The Organiser will publish a schedule giving the dates by which each match must be played: the higher listed team is the ‘home’ team.

Match dates are normally fixed by informal discussion between the 2 captains but the minimum requirement is for the home captain, within 10 days of the draw, to offer 4 dates, not more than 2 of which shall be in the same 7 day period, and to include at least 1 weekend (Saturday or Sunday) date and at least 1 weekday date.

Captains are to confirm a starting time when agreeing a date. In the absence of any mutually agreed alternative, this will be 2pm for a weekend match and 7.30pm for a weekday. The offer of a date with a different starting time is in effect an invalid offer unless it is acceptable to the opposing captain.

If a team is delayed they should inform the other captain: after 45 minutes of unnotified late arrival or 90 minutes of notified late arrival the match is awarded to the non-offending side unless the two captains agree to play, either that day or on a rearranged date.

5        Matches Not Played in Time

An unplayed match will be awarded against a team which broke an agreed date. If no date is agreed the match is awarded to the home team, provided they have offered at least 4 valid dates as in 4 above. Failing this the match is awarded to the away team.

6        Results

The winning captain is responsible for emailing or posting the agreed result to the Event Secretary within 24 hours of the match date, listing all members of the winning team.

7        Rulings

It is hoped that captains will be able to resolve any difficulties. If a ruling is required then captains should:-

i)                    telephone a BBCBA County Director*, or another person agreeable to both captains, at the time to try to resolve the matter

ii)                   If this is not possible, forward full details of the question with the match result, signed by both captains, for arbitration.

8        Licensed systems

Systems and conventions at level 3 may be used.
