Friendly Pairs for the Boothroyd Plate

General Information

• Open to all.  Non members of the EBU or BBCBA may play

• An event for all - from those who are new to duplicate to more experienced players who are happy to play in a relaxed social environment. 

• Experienced players are encouraged to bring along a novice.

• Pairs who have demonstrated that their level of play is too high may be asked not to compete as a pair. 

• Cost £22 per pair. (Less £6 per junior player) which includes a plated tea in the break.

• All players should be seated by 1.20 p.m. for a 1.30 p.m. start.  

• Players delayed by traffic should phone 07522 015305.  

• Free tea and coffee etc. are provided. 

• Play is expected to finish about 5.45 p.m.

Permitted Systems and Conventions

• Level 2 systems and conventions are allowed.  

• Most players can play their normal system but conventions such as Multi 2 Diamonds are banned.

Play

• There  will be 2 sessions of 14 boards - 28 total

• The will be a short break between sessions for tea. 

• The target rate of play is 15 minutes for each two board round but it may be slower to allow for inexperienced players especially in the early rounds.

• The Director will take an active role in encouraging pairs who are persistently slow to speed up

• Players who are behind may be asked not to play a board if bidding has not started.  They will be given an average.

Prizes  

• For each additional five tables, or part thereof, an additional positional prize is awarded.  

• Pairs are eligible for the non-expert prize if both members are ranked below District Master (1,000 master points) on the day of the event. If there are fewer than three non-expert pairs, no prize will be awarded.

• A pair may win only one prize. At the end of the event, the Director will allocate positional prizes first, then the prizes for the best first and second session, then the non-expert prize.  

• B&BCBA vouchers will be given to the top 10% of the field who do not receive any other prize, rounded up. These can be used for a free entry to any B&BCBA county event (except for Friendly competitions) in the following three years. Players who take advantage of this offer to play in county events which require county membership will need to join the EBU and B&BCBA if they are not already members.

Master Point Awards

• District Scale.

• Top third of the field will receive Master Points   

• Master Points will be credited to your EBU account at the end of December.  Those who are not EBU members can ask for their Master Points to be sent to them or collect them at another event.
